They say the best trips start with a little adventure, and ours certainly delivered. What was meant to be a seamless journey to Mauritius with Beachcomber Resorts & Hotels took an unexpected turn when a cyclone meant the airport would be closed for 24 hours and therefore delaying our arrival.

Eager to make the most of our time, we had a quick nap to shake off the journey and eased ourselves into island life in the best way possible: with a massage at the spa. The therapist worked away any lingering travel tension, setting the tone for what would be a trip filled with indulgence and relaxation.

Our first stop was Dinarobin Beachcomber Golf Resort & Spa, set at the foot of the imposing Le Morne mountain. We had plenty to fit into our short time here. One of the most memorable experiences was night-time stand-up paddleboarding. Our LED-lit boards illuminating the marine life beneath us was a moment of pure serenity. The next morning, we switched gears and set off on a heritage bike tour. Pedalling through small villages and past lush sugarcane fields, we gained a deeper appreciation for the island beyond its pristine beaches.

Next, we moved to Royal Palm Beachcomber Luxury, an icon of refined hospitality in Mauritiu,s that has been welcoming guests for 40 years. This legendary hotel, with its impeccable service and understated elegance, felt instantly special. Indulgence took centre stage once again as we were treated to Valmont spa treatments – the renowned Swiss skincare brand that is synonymous with luxury.

In contrast to all this relaxation, we decided to get active with a padel lesson on the resort’s court. Padel courts were introduced to the Beachcomber resorts from early 2025 to cater to the increased interest in the sport. We walked away feeling energised and with a newfound appreciation for the sport!

One of the most inspiring parts of our trip was our visit to Beautiful Local Hands. This program, set up by the Beachcomber Group in 2006, showcases the incredible craftsmanship of Mauritian artisans, supports local talent and preserves traditional techniques. Beautiful Local Hands provides a space and materials for artisans to create and then sell their products in the hotel boutiques. By purchasing these handcrafted pieces, visitors directly contribute to the livelihoods of local artisans, helping to sustain their skills and heritage for future generations. It was an important reminder that Mauritius is more than just a paradise of white sands and turquoise waters.

As we wrapped up our stay, it was impossible not to reflect on what makes Royal Palm Beachcomber so special. This year marks its 40th anniversary, and with more than 60% repeat guests, it’s clear that it’s a place people fall in love with time and time again. After experiencing its timeless charm firsthand, it’s easy to see why.

Mauritius may have greeted us with a cyclone, but it sent us off with memories and a strong desire to return.
